I'm going to do that 'read 50 books in a year' challenge thing...

1. Harry potter and the order of the phoenix- j.k. rowling (which I should be able to finish by sunday... )
2. anansi boys- neil gaiman
3. Jonathan Strange and mr. norrell- susanna clarke
4. the ethics of star trek- judith barrad
5. phantom- terry goodkind
6. a history of pirates- nigel cawthorne
7. gunslinger (and the rest of the dark tower series... however many that is...)- stephen king
8. neuromancer- william gibson
9. pattern recognition

erm... I have a long way to go to get to 50... suggestions?

what william gibson have you read? he's got a bunch of good books.

geek love by katherine dunn (i think) is awesome and bizarre.

i don't think i could read 50 in a year, myself. good luck!!!!!

And you were supposed to read Pattern Recognition while it was at your apartment!!

[identity profile] monkeyman.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
EVERYONE should read Pattern Recognition. I really think it's his best book.

I'd recommend both as well. And Neal Stephenson's The Diamond Age, that's one of my favourite books.

If you run out of choices, just come over and browse my shelves. I have a couple of books. ;)

Are you only going sci-fi/fantasy stuff?

[identity profile] bunnyhero.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
i should do this challenge too, but only read mr. men books. not sure if there's 50 of them though...

I bet there are. And then do Mr. Men fanfic next year for nano.

not really... I should probably broaden my literary horizons :P

I...should do this. Hm.

[identity profile] bunnyhero.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
it's almost one book per week. there's no way i could do this, not with my attention span the way it is these days.

read all the chuck klosterman books. so start with fargo rock city , the sex, drugs and cocoa puffs, killing yourself to live, and finally chuck klosterman IV.

i'm reading IV right now.

then again, he is my favourite author.

the "His dark Materials" trilogy is pretty good. Not a very high reading level, but who cares about that shit when the story's good?

I <3 the iliad/odyssey, but they're lonngggg

[identity profile] hellsbebop.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
I should do this. I used to, back in the day, read at least a book a week. Before I got a life... or friends... or hobbies... ha.

I just posted a book review thingie, if you have any questions about any of those I guess you can ask me...

The Ethics of Star Trek sounds interesting! I think I've heard of it before...

If you haven't read anything by Tamora Pierce I would have to suggest the Lioness Quartet. It's about 4th grade reading level but I swear those books changed my life. It's fantasy.

A History of Pirates was pretty cool. And I'm partway through a book right now called A Brief History of Mutiny that you'd like as well.
